These are just some of the questions you may have and we hope to clear this up for you.
Who should migrate? Â Why should you migrate to Magento 2 and how should it be performed?
How much money does the migration to Magento 2 require?
Most importantly one must realise that upgrading to Magento 2 is not as simple as logging on and updating the system to the latest version.  There is no “one click method†to upgrade to Magento 2. There is a lot more to the upgrade and your website development company will  need to rebuild the entire eCommerce website from scratch by rebuilding your theme and then by transferring all the store data which includes products, product attributes, images, customers and orders.
More Security
Magento 1’s official support will be ending at the end of 2018.  This basically implies that security patches for prospective issues will not be developed or supported anymore (like parts for a car that are no longer being built)  Therefore making it a costly experience to keep up with Magento 1.
More Advantages
Magento 2 has a number of advantages compared to Magento 1. Â The technology platform will be full of up to date features providing web store owners with modern solutions.
- Speed – With Magento 2 being based on the modular architecture the speed will increase including Page load time, add to cart server response time and end to end checkout time will be faster.
- The platform can support around 10 million catalog page view per hour! Â This is 20 times faster than Magento 1
- The admin panel is by far more user friendly than the previous version of Magento 1
- The checkout is much more user friendly, allowing swifter completions of orders and prompting the client to purchase more.
- Magento 2 is build on a responsive web design approach – optimal viewing and seamless interaction across a variety of devices.
 Upgrade Process
Striving to reach quarterly feature releases, the upgrade process is now more efficient than ever. Â This saves time, money and effort; which with Magento 1 was one of the biggest complaints.
Quality
Any new Magento 2 extension goes through a qualification process which needs to comply with their new coding standards and module structures. The Extensions will not appear in the Marketplace if they have not been qualified by the Magento team. So you can be assured that all plugins purchased are of the highest quality.
Improved Checkout process
Magento 2 has introduced a more user-friendly checkout process which in turn assists the buying process. This improvement will have a major effect on conversions and reduced abandoned carts. Previous customers will also have the ability to pre-populate information when they are proceeding through the checkout process. So Magento 2 caters for the buyer’s journey and improved usability.
NetMechanic has a Magento 2 upgrade process we follow
Theme Migration
Magento 1 themes cannot be migrated to Magento 2 directly.
We will work closely with our front-end developers in order to migrate the theme and to ensure it meets Magento 2’s requirements. In some cases, we will have to rebuild the theme.
Extension Management
We will migrate all extensions to the latest compatible version of Magento 2. We will use this chance to review the list of extensions. If we need to migrate an extension that is not available for Magento 2 we will have to create a new extension from the old code and use the new Magento coding standard or we will have to find an alternative extension.
Data Migration
All data and settings will be migrated to Magento 2 via the Magento migration tool.
Deployment
Before your new Magento 2 website design goes live we will do a quality assurance review of each web page to make sure it meets specification. We will test the website on the more popular web browsers and mobile devices. We will also provide a link to the staging environment to test before the website goes live. Â
